2. Creating PIP with iMovie on Mac

Begin by launching iMovie and importing both video clips to the media library. Next, on the timeline insert the background video.

Step1. Choose the video for the foreground from your library that you will then insert over the background video.

In the preview window, the video will appear on top without you having to do anything further.

Step2. On the timeline, you now have to choose the foreground video clip and then at the top of the preview window select the Video Overlay Settings button.

There is a Cutaway option located just under the Video Overlay Settings button, which you will need to change to Picture in Picture.

When the video is played from the start, the foreground clip should be playing inside the background video.

Step3. Do you need to adjust the size and position? Just go back hit the Video Overlay Settings button.

You will then see there are handles on the edges of the foreground video. Click on these edges to adjust the size of the video. The position of the video can be adjusted by dragging it like in the preview window below.

Head back to the Video Overlay Settings and you will see a small controller (Add Key frame button) under the button:

At the location of the playheads, a keyframe will be inserted once you hit the Add Key frame button.

3. Creating PIP with iMovie on iPhone/iPad
